'America's Day':
Under tight security, Joseph R. Biden was sworn in as the nation’s 46th president Wednesday. In a historic first, Kamala D. Harris was sworn in as the first woman vice-president and first person of color to hold the office.
“This is America’s day. This is democracy’s day. A day of history and hope, renewal and resolve,” Biden said, after U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office.
President Biden plans to sign executive orders, undoing former president Donald Trump's policies on immigration and health.

Inauguration day history:
On this day in 1937, Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first U.S. president sworn into office in January.
The Constitution of the United States had established March 4 as Inauguration Day in order to allow enough time after Election Day for officials to gather election returns and for newly-elected candidates to travel to the capital. With modern advances in communication and transportation, the lengthy transition period proved unnecessary and legislators pressed for change. The date was moved to January 20 with the passage of the Twentieth Amendment in 1933.
